CODE PAKISTAN assists Federal Judicial Academy

December 3, 2019: CODE PAKISTAN assisted the Federal Judicial Academy and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in holding the National Symposium on Criminal Justice Coordination Framework held at the Federal Judicial Academy. The objective of the symposium was to gather key actors of the criminal justice system for a dialogue leading to recommendations on how the criminal justice coordination framework could be used as a tool for prevention of human rights violations. The event was attended by participants from all criminal justice institutions from all the administrative territories/provinces, including the police, prosecution, prions, and the judiciary. The event was also graced by Director General Federal Judicial Academy Mr. Hayat Ali Shah, the Head of the ICRC Delegation in Pakistan Ms. Dragana Kocij, the Head of the ICRC Prevention Unit Mr. Luigi Fratini, Deputy Head of the ICRC Delegation in Pakistan Mr. Jamal Khan, and other senior-level officials from the Federal Judicial Academy.
Honorable Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan was the Chief Guest of the event. In his concluding remarks at the end of the proceedings of the symposium, he appreciated the Federal Judicial Academy for holding the symposium and suggested formation of a body for monitoring the implementation of the recommendations of the symposium as well as other similar forums. Before him, the Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy Mr. Hayat Ali Shah also expressed his hope that the symposium’s recommendations coming with input from senior-level leadership of the police, prosecution, prisons, and the judiciary, would be really helpful in policy formulation on the subject. The symposium featured extensive deliberations on coordination between various criminal justice institutions with a special emphasis on the role of the Criminal Justice Coordination Committees established under law in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh.
