April 2, 2019: CODE PAKISTAN held a consultation on countering violent extremism with the students of Jamia Khairul Madaris, Multan, today. Team CODE PAKISTAN gave a comprehensive presentation on the importance of peace, tolerance, inclusivity, and accepting of diversity according to Islamic teachings at the madrassah, which was followed by a general discussion among the over 50 participants of the discussion, including students and faculty members of the Jamia Khairul Madaris. The students of Jamia Khairul Madaris actively participated in the discussion. They appreciated the need for acquiring contemporary education for madrassah students. They added that the students of madrassahs were going to colleges and universities for obtaining higher education and were excelling in contemporary education as well. The students of Jamia Khairul Madaris highlighted the need for greater understanding of history among madrassah students. They added that the students of madrassahs also wanted to learn modern languages but that at times their resources did not allow them to acquire such education. The urged CODE PAKISTAN to organize language courses for madrassah students. The students of Jamia Khairul Madaris highly appreciated the efforts of CODE PAKISTAN for the betterment of madrassahs.
