July 28, 2017: CODE PAKISTAN held two-day consultations with senior criminal justice officials of the federal government of Pakistan as well as the officials of the provincial governments of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Sindh, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan. The consultations were held in collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and were aimed at complementing the efforts of NACTA in the field of reform of the criminal justice system pursuant to Point No. 20 of the National Action Plan. The consultations were presided over by National Coordinator NACTA Mr. Ihsan Ghani Khan.
The consultations specifically focused on addressing the shortcomings of the criminal justice system with regard to delays in the processing and adjudication of cases. A whole array of relevant social issues, resource constraints of criminal justice institutions, investigative shortcomings, and causes of judicial delays were discussed during the consultations.
