February 25, 2021: CODE PAKISTAN organized a dialogue between the students of Jamia Moeenia Peshawar and Islamia College University Peshawar. The dialogue held at the historic Khyber Union Hall of the Islamia College University Peshawar was the fourth in a series of dialogues CODE PAKISTAN is organizing between the students of madrassahs and the students of contemporary education. The topic of the dialogue was “Fundamental Human Rights and Our Social Responsibility.”
The dialogue provided a unique opportunity for the students of both the systems of education to freely interact with each other and express their views on the topic of discussion. Three students each from Jamia Moeenia and Islamia College University expressed their views on the topic from the podium. The dialogue was highly interactive. The students of Jamia Moeenia Peshawar as well as the students of Islamia College University Peshawar openly interacted with each other through the platform provided by CODE PAKISTAN.
The head of the Khyber Students Union of Islamia College University and renowned Pashtu poet Mr. Abasin Yousafzai also participated in the dialogue. In his remarks on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of culture for human progress and urged the students of both education system to develop tolerance for alternative viewpoints among them. He said that the Pashtun society was a tolerant society, which had accorded the rights of religious minorities to them even before the creation of Pakistan. Mr. Yousafzai highly appreciated the effort of CODE PAKISTAN in bridging the divide between the students of madrassahs and the students of the mainstream education system. He said that he highly emphasized the need for more such interaction between the students of madrassahs and contemporary education institutions.
Senior faculty member of Jamia Moeenia Mufti Usman also appreciated the initiative of CODE PAKISTAN and said that Islam laid great emphasis on human rights. He urged CODE PAKISTAN to continue with its efforts to counter misperceptions between the students of the madrassah and mainstream education systems by promoting dialogue between them. Faculty member of Pashtu Department of Islamia College University Dr Tufail Zaryab also highlighted the importance of tolerance for diversity of opinion and according their rights to all individuals of the society. He particularly emphasized safeguarding the rights of women in the society.
