August 02, 2016: CODE PAKISTAN, in coordination and consultation with NACTA, organized a specialized session with leading psychiatrists of the country. Selected doctors from Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar participated in the deliberations. The group discussed theory of extremism in connection with mental health situation in Pakistan. The group agreed to treat the root causes of violent extremism in Pakistan. The group recommended establishing national psycho-trauma centers (NPTC) under the ministry of health at the federal and provincial levels. Additionally, the group called for establishing national forensic psychiatric assessment units (NFPAU) in coordination with NACTA and Provincial Home Departments.
In the meeting, it was resolved that both recommendations will be further researched and appropriate implementation strategy will be drafted for NACTA\’s review and implementation.
